Jaguar Land Rover favours Europe for new manufacturing plants
Jaguar Land Rover plants are running at full capacity and the Indian-owned automaker desperately needs new manufacturing facilities for additional production capacity. According to sources, they are opening new plants in China and the UK. The company even announced that they have selected Brazil for the production of new Land Rover Discovery Sport.
For new production facilities, JLR has plans to open its new plants in Europe rather than the US. Sources said that this plan is highly inspired by the JLR’s engine and vehicle production plants in UK. JLR is looking to reduce its costs and European countries like Turkey and Austria can offer low-cost solutions.
It is also reported by automotive sources that the labour costs and wages disputes with unions are ruling out another factory in the UK.
An unnamed news source stated in its report that, “At this stage Europe seems more likely than America. The union pay dispute had a big effect, there is a feeling of alienation that has been left over from the way the pay talks were handled.”
A JLR representative denied any plans for future plant locations and he further said that JLR will continue to evaluate the possibilities to increase its manufacturing capacity.
